The first German-language, open access online encyclopaedia for systematic theology, ‘SysLex’, is online.

News from May 01, 2025

On 1 May, the first German-language and open-access lexicon for systematic theology, ‘SysLex’, went online. With a constantly growing number of articles, it will provide comprehensible, short and problem-orientated introductions to theological questions and terms. At www.syslex-online.de, people interested in theology, teachers, church councils, pastors, students and volunteers will initially find 50 structured articles on ethics, dogmatics and philosophy of religion. The lexicon will be constantly updated with current topics and keywords to provide quick and easy access to theological ideas and traditions. The Protestant Church in Germany (Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland, EKD) is providing financial support and the Specialised Information Service in Theology (Fachinformationsdienst Theologie) will host SysLex once development work has been completed. The online-lexicon is based on the open source software Open Encyclopedia System developed at Freie Universität Berlin.
