The fourth OES Community Meeting took place at Freie Universität Berlin on 27 and 28 November 2025. This two-day event provided an opportunity to discuss current developments relating to OES and forms of collaborative work practices within the community.
On the first day, OES applications were presented in short pitches. The subsequent poster session allowed for further discussion and exchange of ideas. Michael Kleineberg (UB, Freie Universität Berlin) gave a presentation entitled
"Open access publishing with OES: metadata, licensing, indexing", which addressed the perception and classification of OES as a form of publication, and of OES applications as scientific open access publications.
The community session of the fourth meeting was held under the motto 'Working together – shaping cooperation'. In small groups, the current OES onboarding process was critically review, after which materials for onboarding were revised and recreated in a writing sprint.
On the second day of the meeting, the focus was on further developing OES. As well as providing information about new modules, the OES team presented their current concepts and developments. In the FutureOES session, Sophie Schneider (FUB-IT / DFI) presented 'The potential of semi-automatic indexing and linking of entities for online encyclopaedias', offering a glimpse into the future by presenting methods for automatic information extraction in the context of OES, illustrated by examples. The event concluded with an opportunity for practical peer learning about using OES.
