OES applications

OES is versatile, just like the reference works implemented with the software, ranging from encyclopaedias and compendiums to living handbooks.

Here you will find an overview of published OES applications. The majority of the listed applications have been supported by the OES team (Digital Research Infrastructures, FUB-IT) in various ways, such as consulting, technical support and implementation (see Forms of Cooperation) or as partners of joint projects (see Our third-party-funded projects).

Affective Archive

The Affective Archive presents the biographies of selected projects from the CRC 1171 ‘Affective Societies’, developing innovative science communication formats by presenting project biographies as one-pagers, graphic novels, intractive maps or digital exhibitions.

Arabic Sociology

Arabic Sociology is a platform that brings together sociological works and concepts in Arabic and English. Its aim is to promote cross-linguistic and cross-regional discussion in this field. The website is available as a beta version.

Articulations

The digital, open-access journal of EXC 2020, ‘Temporal Communities: Doing Literature in a Global Perspective,’ presents contributions outlining and documenting the ideas and case studies of the cluster across disciplines, research fields, and formats.

B.forscht!

The project browser provides detailed information on more than 1,000 ancient studies projects conducted at research institutions in the Berlin-Brandenburg region. These projects can be searched for using filters for region, time period or institution.

Compendium heroicum

The Compendium heroicum of CRC 948 ‘Heroes – Heroisations – Heroisms’ provides detailed descriptions of various aspects of the heroic, including its figures, functions, mediality and practices, in both German and English.

Data Affairs

Developed by CRC 1171 ‘Affective Societies’, the information portal provides an overview of issues relating to research data management when working with qualitative data in ethnographic research. Users can also engage in interactive self-study.

Biografisches Handbuch: Todesopfer der Grenzregime am Eisernen Vorhang

Compiled by the Forschungsverbund SED Staat, the biographical handbook commemorates those who died at the inner-German border or while attempting to escape across the Baltic Sea, featuring over 500 biographies.

Enzyklopädie des NS-Völkermordes an den Sinti und Roma in Europa

This encyclopaedia offers a comprehensive overview of the existing knowledge on the persecution and murder of Sinti and Roma under the Nazi regime and during the Second World War.

Handbuch der Digitalen Quellenkritik

The Living Handbook is dedicated to digital source criticism in the humanities and cultural studies. This field brings the traditional approach to analysing and interpreting sources into the digital age.

Key Concepts Online

Key Concepts Online is the online glossary of terms used by the CRC ‘Affective Societies’ at Freie Universität Berlin. It provides brief explanations of terms that have been developed (further) in the CRC´s research.

OES Demo

The OES demo is an exemplary online encyclopaedia that uses fictitious data to provide an initial impression of OES´s functions and features, and to illustrate the current state of OES development.

OES Manual

The OES Manual (Beta) offers an initial introduction to working with the Open Encyclopedia System. It is divided into several manuals that cover different aspects of the OES platform and support users in their work with OES.

The online compendium is a scholarly publication platform focusing on the various transfer processes between the German and Greek cultural spheres since the 18 th century.

ORGANON terminology toolbox

ORGANON is a tool for orientation in the interdisciplinary landscape of concepts and theories. It provides an overview of relevant discourses, key texts and additional resources.

Onlinelexikon Systematische Theologie

SysLex, the online encyclopaedia of systematic theology (SysLex) published by FEST Heidelberg, provides clear, concise and problem-oriented introductions to dogmatic, ethical and religious-philosophical terms.

UeLex - Germersheimer Übersetzerlexikon

UeLEX is a freely accessible, interdisciplinary online reference work. Its core element consists of translator profiles, some of which are supplemented by detailed translator-focused bibliographies.

1914-1918-online

‘1914-1918-online’ is the largest English-language, peer-reviewed reference work on the First World War. This open access encyclopaedia was created collaboratively by more than 1,200 authors, editors and partners from over 50 countries.

OES applications in planning or implementation

These online reference works are currently being developed with the help of the OES team:

The living handbook ‘Keywords for the Study of Arabic Literary and Manuscript Traditions’ (KALiMaT), which is part of a DFG project (2024-2027) led by Prof. B. Gründler, Arabic Studies, Freie Universität Berlin.
The online encyclopaedia ‘PITHOS Online Collection of Anatolian Material Culture’ is being developed in collaboration with Néhèmie Strupler, Freie Universität Berlin.
