Agenda OES-Community-Treffen 5 - Veranstaltungsposter
The fifth OES Community Meeting took place at Freie Universität Berlin on 23 and 24 April 2026. The meeting's overarching thema was "sustainability and visibility", which shaped the agenda and informed several thematic sessions. Birgit Schlegel (UB, Freie Universität Berlin) presented the DOI services of the University Library in her contribution on visibility and citability, while Andreas Kelletat presented initiatives for the extended visibility and long-term archiving of the Germersheim Translators' Lexicon UeLEX.
The meeting began on Thursday morning with the presentation of the OES applications. OES beginners and long-standing community members then discussed the creation of project profiles. These profiles are intended to supplement the application overview on the OES website with additional information in the future.
The interactive community formats on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning focused on increasing the visibility of OES and the OES community and on designing collaborative processes within the community. The main objectives were to explore synergies in collaboration, documentation and knowledge sharing. Editors from Articulations and the Encyclopedia of Nazi Genocide of the Sinti and Roma in Europe jointly presented their editorial manuals, which had many similarities.
After critically reviewing the OES materials and the communication forms and formats, the participants considered how the community´s meeting formats could continue beyond the end of the project funding. "Prototypes" for a community-led organisation of OES community meetings and OES MeetUps were developed in an “idea sprint”. These results will inform the future design and planning of the formats, for example, by making the OES MeetUps more targeted and by appointing a "co-host" to support the planning and implementation of the next community meeting.
Technical developments and perspectives were also presented and discussed. Initial insights into OES 3.0, which is planned for release in summer 2026, were provided, as were new features and modules: These included the new rights model with roles such as "OES Managing Editor" and "OES Admin" as well as the new LOD API for integrating and displaying ORCID and ROR. Current developments of the OES module for OJS as well as perspectives for import and export formats such as XML/TEI were presented.
