Once or twice a year, OES users and interested parties convene at Freie Universität Berlin for the OES Community Meeting. These two-day events provode an opportunity to familiarise yourself with other applications and project teams, share knowledge, and discuss the future development of OES.

Next OES community meeting: 26 and 27 November 2026 at Freie Universität Berlin

On 26 and 27 November 2026 the 6th OES Community Meeting will take place at Freie Universität Berlin, which we are organizing this time together with the team behind the OES application kalimat. We cordially invite all OES users and interested parties to Berlin to network, learn from one another, and exchange ideas. Thanks to the generous support of EXC Temporal Communities' at Freie Universität Berlin, the event will be held at the EXC.

As usual, the meeting will offer opportunities for exchange in various formats. We will present recent developments and would like to work with you to further explore and advance the self- and co-organization of the OES community and collaboration within the network.

We are currently working on the agenda. One thematic focus will be the use of generative AI in scholarly publishing. How does editorial work change by the use of AI? How can editorial processes be optimized through technical tools to create more space for conceptual work? What extensions to OES might be conceivable? And finally: how do developments in generative AI affect the role of curated scholarly online reference works as a publication format? We would like to discuss these and related questions with you.

We also plan to examine the self-conception of OES‑based scholarly online reference works. The aim of a writing sprint is to collectively draft a manifesto for the OES community: What understanding of the publication format does the OES community represent and unite? What self-conceptions do the individual OES implementations articulate? Which scholarly practices and principles do OES users share and that characterize the OES community? We look forward to your thoughts and contributions. A preparatory meeting for the writing sprint will be held online; the date will be agreed in advance.
