Open Encyclopedia System - publishing reference works online
The Open Encyclopedia System (OES) is standardised, web-based research software designed for the creation, publication and maintainance of open-access academic, lemma-based online publications (such as encyclopaedias, lexicons and handbooks) in the humanities and social sciences. As such, OES provides an additional open access solution to the existing range of electronic publishing options for online journals and online monographs.
OES is based on the open-source content management system WordPress, enhancing its system architecture, that distinguishes between publication and editorial layers, to include encyclopaedic functionalities. OES is implemented as a WordPress plugin with associated themes, and the source code is available for third parties on GitHub under a GPLv2 licence.
